“The Gates Foundation and Japan [on Thursday] launched a Grand Challenge to tackle neglected diseases, with an initial funding pledge of U.S. $4 million supplied jointly with Japanese companies. … The Tokyo-based Global Health Innovative Technology (GHIT) Fund, of which the [Gates F]oundation is already a partner, will coordinate research on visceral leishmaniasis, elephantiasis, and Chagas disease.
