Nov. 10 Web Briefing to Release the 2021 Employer Health Benefits Survey Capturing Trends in Offer Rate, Premiums, Cost Sharing and Benefit Changes Related to COVID-19

KFF released its 2021 benchmark Employer Health Benefits Survey via a public web briefing on Nov. 10, 2021.

This 23rd annual survey provided a detailed look at the current state of employer-based coverage and trends in private health insurance for both large and small firms. Fielded among a nationally representative sample of nearly 1,700 employers with at least three workers, the survey captures average premiums for workers and employers and their rate of increase; average deductibles and other cost sharing; and the share of firms of different sizes offering health benefits. This year’s survey also assesses changes made in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including to telemedicine coverage, mental health benefits, and wellness programs.

The briefing was open to the public and featured KFF Senior Vice President Gary Claxton, the study’s long-time director, and Matthew Rae, associate director of KFF’s Program on the Health Care Marketplace. They  presented a brief overview of the findings and took questions from the audience. KFF Executive Vice President for Health Policy Larry Levitt moderated.

The full report, charts and executive summary were made available at kff.org. Select findings also appeared online in an article in Health Affairs and in its December issue.
