These resources are for anyone shopping (or helping someone shop) for health coverage within the health insurance marketplaces created through the Affordable Care Act (also known as the ACA or Obamacare).
This year, open enrollment began on Wednesday, November 1, 2017, and ended on Friday, December 15, 2017 in healthcare.gov states. Most state-run Marketplaces are holding somewhat longer open enrollment periods. Additionally, people who live in, or who moved from, FEMA-designated areas affected by Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma, and Hurricane Maria are eligible for extensions.
Use this new tool to estimate your penalty for going uninsured in 2018 vs. how much you would pay for health insurance coverage in the ACA marketplaces, based on your zip code, income, family size and age.
