Do I have to prove eligibility for a special enrollment period?

Possibly.  In 2016 the federal Marketplace began requiring people to provide documentation of eligibility for special enrollment following the four most common qualifying events:
  • Loss of minimum essential coverage
  • Permanent move
  • Birth, adoption, placement for adoption, placement for foster care, or child support or other court order, and
  • Marriage
If you experience one of these qualifying events and apply for coverage in a federal Marketplace state, will give you a notice listing the kind of documents you must provide to prove your qualifying event.  If you do not provide this documentation by the deadline stated in the notice, you could lose your Marketplace health coverage.
