Marketplace Health Plans and Premiums

I also notice “Catastrophic Plans” that look even cheaper. What are those and can I buy one?

Catastrophic plans have the highest cost sharing and lowest premiums. In 2025, Catastrophic plans will have an annual deductible of $9,200 ($18,400 for family plans). You will have to pay the entire cost of covered services (other than preventive care and three primary care visits) until you’ve reached your deductible; after that, your plan will pay 100% of covered in-network services for the rest of the year. Catastrophic plans are only available for adults up to age 30, and for older people who can’t find any other Marketplace policy that costs less than 7.28% of their income.

Note that if you are eligible for financial assistance on the Marketplace, it cannot be applied to a catastrophic plan.

While we have made every effort to provide accurate information in these FAQs, people should contact the health insurance Marketplace or Medicaid agency in their state for guidance on their specific circumstances.
