KFF EHBS Data Use Form

Thank you for your interest in the KFF Employer Health Benefits Survey. We make a public use file available to researchers. In order to protect the anonymity of our respondents, the data are stripped of identifying information including state identifiers, and counts are top-coded in some cases. The data files are in CSV format and compressed using WinZip.  The survey uses a complex design so weights should be applied to correctly calculate estimates. The file includes a data dictionary and user documentation.

If you are interested in obtaining a public use file, please complete and submit the form below. This helps us gauge what topics users are interested in. Researchers using the data for commercial purposes such as benchmarking or market research may request the file. For further questions, email marketplacecontact@kff.org.

Notes on the EHBS dataset

Individual identifiers have been removed from the micro-data contained in the public use data files. Data included in the KFF Employer Health Benefits Survey public use files may not be used for any purpose other than for the purpose for which it was supplied; any effort to determine the identity of any reported cases is strictly prohibited. Users are advised to read the documentation, and note that the survey has a complex design; therefore even large differences between estimates do not indicate a statistically significant difference.

  2. If the identity of any person or establishment should be discovered inadvertently, then (a) no use will be made of this knowledge, (b) The Health Care Marketplace Project at KFF will be advised of this incident, (c) the information that would identify any individual or establishment will be safeguarded or destroyed, as requested by KFF, and (d) no one else will be informed of the discovered identity.
