As of July 20, 2018, seven states have applied for waivers to include a work requirement in their Medicaid programs and two states (Indiana and Arkansas) have received approval to implement such requirements. On June 29, 2018, the DC federal district court ruled against Kentucky’s waiver, which included a work requirement. The court ruling explained that because low-income people within the state would be hurt by the waiver, it went against the Medicaid statute and could not be implemented.
