New Resources, Briefing Examine Medicaid Long-Term Services and Supports

The following resources by the Kaiser Family Foundation’s Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured (KCMU) examine the latest data findings regarding Medicaid’s long-term services and supports for seniors and people with disabilities. The materials were released at a public briefing in the Foundation’s Washington, D.C. offices that featured an expert panel and remarks on long-term services and supports by U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius.

The reports include:

Reports,  Studies  and Toplines IconMedicaid Home and Community-Based Service Programs: Data Update, which summarizes the key trends in expenditures and participation data for the three main Medicaid HCBS programs.

Three new reports on the  Money Follows the Person (MFP) program:

Reports,  Studies  and Toplines IconMoney Follows the Person: A 2010 Snapshot, which relies on a survey of state MFP programs to gauge trends in enrollment, services and spending.

Reports,  Studies  and Toplines IconCase Study: Ohio’s Money Follows the Person Demonstration (HOME Choice), which provides an overview of Ohio’s MFP program.

Reports,  Studies  and Toplines IconMoney Follows the Person Transitions Individuals From Nursing Homes to the Community, which offers short profiles of four Ohio residents who have benefitted from the program.

Two issue briefs on key ingredients in the shift to community-based long-term services and supports:
Reports,  Studies  and Toplines IconA Challenge for States: Assuring Timely Access to Optimal Long-Term Services and Supports in the Community, which highlights the importance of providing accurate and timely information to consumers, and of being able to make Medicaid eligibility determinations efficiently.

Reports,  Studies  and Toplines IconHelping Consumers Manage Long-Term Services and Supports in the Community: State Medicaid Program Activities, which describes current case management efforts in states and policies that can enhance efforts to help consumers manage the services and supports they need.
