Medicaid Enrollment and Unwinding Tracker

The data presented here provide a snapshot of each state at the start of and during the unwinding period. Figure 1 shows total Medicaid enrollment by month starting in January 2023 and, once disenrollments resume in a state, the cumulative percent change in Medicaid enrollment relative to the month before Medicaid disenrollments started (this baseline month will differ across states). The month in which disenrollments are expected to resume is indicated for each state. Bars will shift to orange once declines in monthly enrollment are evident in the data. Please note, data reported on state websites may not be comparable (for example, some states may report partial enrollees and not others) and cannot be summed to produce a total for the US. For this reason, state-reported data may also differ from the monthly Medicaid enrollment data reported by CMS. For total national Medicaid enrollment, click on the National Enrollment Data tab.

Unwinding data, including data on the number of renewals and disenrollments for each month, will be added as it becomes available for each state.
