Survey of Detroit Area Residents — Toplines The Survey of Detroit Area Residents, the 18th in the Washington Post/Kaiser Family Foundation/Harvard University partnership series, was conducted by telephone from November 5 to 22, 2009 among 1,211 respondents age 18 and older living in the Detroit area (defined as Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties).
The economic downturn has strained family finances and prompted some Americans to cut back on medications and forgo preventive care and visits to the doctor. At the same time, the downturn has triggered declines in tax revenue that inhibit states’ ability to meet rising Medicaid program costs as enrollment spikes during economic hard times.
