This issue brief provides an overview of the Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit market for 2022, with a primary focus on stand-alone drug plans. This analysis estimates that 1.4 million uninsured individuals in the ten states without Medicaid expansion, including many working adults, people of color, and those with disabilities, remain in the "coverage gap," ineligible for Medicaid or for tax credits that would make coverage through the Affordable Care Act's Marketplaces affordable to them.
This analysis examines the experiences of lower income adults with their employer sponsored insurance and finds they were more likely to self-report problems with affordability, enrollment, and network adequacy, and to experience negative health consequences as a result of insurance problems, compared to their higher income peers.
