The total Medicare Part A enrollee counts and calculated 'per Part A enrollee' rates are based on enrollees in Traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage/Other Health Plans combined, because once a beneficiary enrolled in Medicare Advantage/Other Health Plans elects the hospice benefit, his or her Medicare benefits revert to fee-for-service. This table limits the reporting of hospice days to utilization days occurring within the specified calendar year and may not reflect all of a beneficiary's utilization days for an entire hospice episode of care. As a result, the 'covered days of care per person with utilization' calculation may be understated since utilization days that occur prior to the specified calendar year and/or utilization days that occur after the specified calendar year are not included in the calculation.
