Notes
This table includes comprehensive Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) in the 42 states (including DC) that had contracts with Medicaid MCOs as of July 1, 2024. Data reflect only comprehensive managed care organizations (MCOs). CMS defines comprehensive MCOs as managed care plans that cover all acute, primary, and specialty medical services; they may also cover behavioral health and long-term services and supports. Limited benefit plans (including prepaid ambulatory health plans (PAHPs) and prepaid inpatient health plans (PIHPs)) and Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) are exlcuded.
Oregon's Coordinated Care Organizations ("CCOs"), which receive state premium payments on behalf of enrolled Medicaid enrollees are counted as MCOs. Excludes Vermont’s public managed care model. While Idaho's plans for dual-eligible individuals are categorized by CMS and counted in KFF's Medicaid Managed Care Tracker as MCOs, KFF does not consider Idaho an "MCO state" in other Medicaid managed care work (since the plans are secondary to Medicare).
See Medicaid MCO Enrollment by Plan and Parent Firm, 2024 for more information.
For additional table and state specific notes, see Table 5 in the 2024 CMS Medicaid Managed Care Enrollment Report .
