Medicare Advantage

Can I switch from my current Medicare Advantage or Medicare Part D plan to a plan with a “5-star” quality rating in my area outside the open enrollment period?

Yes, if a Medicare Advantage Plan or Medicare drug plan with a 5-star rating is available in your area, there is a Special Enrollment Period that allows you to switch from your current Medicare plan to a Medicare plan with a “5-star” quality rating. You can use this Special Enrollment Period only once between December 8 and November 30 the following year.

While we have made every effort to provide accurate information in these FAQs, people should contact the health insurance Marketplace or Medicaid agency in their state for guidance on their specific circumstances.
