I’m eligible for a student health plan but haven’t signed up yet. Do I have to enroll in that plan, or can I apply for coverage and financial assistance on the Marketplace or for Medicaid coverage?

Even if you are eligible for a student health plan, you can apply for coverage and financial assistance through the Marketplace during Open Enrollment or, if you experience a qualifying life event, during a special enrollment period. Depending on your income and other requirements, you may be eligible for assistance paying your premiums and cost sharing.

In addition, eligibility for a student health plan does not make you ineligible for Medicaid. Check with your state Marketplace to find out if you meet the income and other eligibility standards to enroll in Medicaid.
