“The Trump administration’s efforts to curtail the use of fetal tissue in federal research was driven by political considerations despite health officials’ promise to follow the science, according to new findings from a long-running investigation by senior Democratic lawmakers. The lawmakers say documents obtained through their investigation indicate that scientific evidence raised by researchers at the National Institutes of Health was ignored by political appointees as they sought to restrict fetal tissue research, a policy favored by anti-abortion groups aligned with President Donald Trump…” (Diamond, 9/14).
