Assistant Social Media Manager, Kaiser Health News
LOCATION: Washington, D.C. (Remote, until September 2021)
PROGRAM AREA: Kaiser Health News
About the Job:
KFF, the non-profit health policy analysis, polling and journalism organization, is seeking a Washington-based social media expert to join the staff of Kaiser Health News (KHN), the national newsroom producing and distributing in-depth journalism about health issues across the country. KHN has a vibrant and ambitious staff based in Washington, D.C., California, Missouri, Colorado and Montana.
We are looking for an assistant social media manager who will work directly with KHN’s social media manager to assist reporters and editors in the daily promotion of Kaiser Health News stories on social sites and coordinate with KHN’s partners’ social media teams. We are looking for someone who can help build an even larger audience for our perceptive stories on health policy, the health care industry and health care politics.
A deep knowledge of our health care system is NOT a prerequisite, though some familiarity would help. What is essential? A creative use of language to compose compelling social media posts. Social media experience is a plus since you will be involved with evolving our audience engagement strategy. The ideal candidate will be well-organized and detail-oriented with basic graphic design skills (Canva/content creation, Instagram reels/TikTok, video editing) and have a finger on the pulse of cultural dialogue. We want someone with sterling judgement who is also on top of the latest social media trends and eager to experiment with any of them.
The assistant social media manager participates in the daily news meetings and is involved in the planning of all major initiatives. You will advise how best to reach a broad audience and will educate your colleagues on how to work with current and ever-emerging social media platforms. You will work with web editors on appealing visual display of stories and will also ensure relevant analytics are monitored and useful.
If you want to be part of an ambitious, prize-winning, and fast-growing newsroom, this is the job for you.
We offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications, and we have enviable health insurance and retirement benefits.
KFF staff are currently working remotely due to COVID-19 but will be returning to the office in September 2021. Once staff are able to return to the office, this full-time position will be based in KHN’s headquarters in downtown Washington, D.C. This full-time position is for a renewable one-year term. Relocation assistance is available.
