Renewing Marketplace Coverage

I was enrolled in a zero premium bronze plan last year. I thought I would just let it automatically renew. But I see the marketplace put me in a zero-premium silver plan this year. Is that allowed? What are my options?

Yes, this is allowed. Exchanges are allowed to automatically re-enroll enrollees from a bronze level QHP to a silver QHP if the monthly silver plan premium for the next year is not more than the monthly bronze premium for the future year and if the new plan provider network is similar to the old plan. Under the silver plan, additional cost sharing subsidies can be applied so that the deductible and copays will be much lower compared to Bronze plans. If you would like to keep your old plan, you can sign into your Marketplace account before the end of Open Enrollment and select that plan and coverage under that plan will begin on February 1.

While we have made every effort to provide accurate information in these FAQs, people should contact the health insurance Marketplace or Medicaid agency in their state for guidance on their specific circumstances.
