Produced by KFF under its Greater Than COVID public information response, this campaign is presented with the American Academy of Pediatrics. The new videos join the expansive living video library featuring Black and Latinx health care workers answering common questions on the COVID vaccines (available in English and Spanish). YouTube/Google, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest are supporting distribution.

A Look at Parental Consent and COVID-19 Vaccination for Adolescents

Most states require parental consent at this point, though the landscape may be shifting slightly as more jurisdictions seek to encourage vaccination of young people. Parents and parental consent laws will play a critical role in the COVID-19 vaccination effort to reach children in the U.S., particularly as authorization moves to even younger ages.

There were an estimated 287,000 hospitalizations between June and August that could have been avoided by a COVID-19 vaccine. These preventable hospitalizations are devastating to patients, families, and caregivers. An analysis estimates the hospitalizations cost the U.S. health system $5.7 billion in those three months.
