People without health insurance are less likely than those with insurance to report receiving certain preventive services in the past year. For instance, in 2000, while three-quarters (76%) of women with health insurance reported receiving a pap smear in the past year, compared with fewer than half (49%) of uninsured women. [Note, while these numbers are from 2000, the 2005 Health Care Costs Survey also found that 85% of the insured reporting visiting a doctor in the previous year, compared with 59% of the uninsured.]
