Willingness to Pay

Willingness to pay remains one of the toughest obstacles to providing insurance coverage for the uninsured. About half (51%) of adults say they would NOT be willing to pay more in higher insurance premiums or taxes in order to increase the number of insured Americans, while a somewhat smaller share (45%) say they would be willing to pay more.

When asked in a separate question about specific amounts they would be willing to pay, over one-third (35%) wouldn’t be willing to pay anything or would only be willing to pay $5 a month, while just over one in ten (12%) would be willing to pay $30 more a month, and nearly half (46%) would be willing to pay $50 more a month.
