Health of the Healthcare System: An Overview

This slideshow compares the United States to other countries in four key areas: health, quality of health care, cost of care, and accessibility. It accompanies the video, “Health of the Healthcare System,” a diagnostic look at the state of the U.S. healthcare system. Topics explored include life expectancy, deaths amenable to health care, and prices of certain medicines and services. The slideshow also charts trends in U.S. health care over time, examining health spending, shares of household budgets devoted to health expenses, and cost-related access problems for lower-income adults.

The slideshow is part of the Peterson-Kaiser Health System Tracker, an online information hub dedicated to monitoring and assessing the performance of the U.S. health system. The video related to the slideshow is available through the tracker.
