Ask the Experts Live Webcast: High-Risk Insurance Pools
Tuesday, July 15 at 1:00 p.m. ET
On Tuesday, July 15 at 1:00 p.m. ET, join kaisernetwork.org's Ask the Experts for a live webcast looking at state high-risk insurance pools. These pools -- which provide access to coverage for people excluded from non-group insurance because of pre-existing health conditions -- are a key feature of some health care proposals, including the plan from presumptive Republican nominee Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). The experts will discuss how current high-risk pools work in providing access to coverage, including their funding, the benefits they provide and the premiums that are charged to enrollees; how they relate to approaches for regulating the non-group insurance market; and what role they might play under a reformed health system.
WHO: Larry Levitt, vice president of the Kaiser Family Foundation and editor-in-chief of kaisernetwork.org, will moderate the discussion with:
- Lesley Cummings, executive director, California Managed Risk Medical Insurance Board;
- Christina Nyquist, managing director, Office of Policy and Representation, Blue Cross Blue Shield Association;
- Karen Pollitz, research professor, Health Policy Institute at Georgetown University; and
- Doug Stratton, executive director, Indiana Comprehensive Health Insurance Association and chair, National Association of State Comprehensive Health Plans.
