This data update shows that in December 2006, 42.1 million individuals were enrolled in Medicaid in the 50 states and the District of Columbia, a 1.0 percent decline from the 42.5 million who were enrolled in the previous December. This decline represents the first national decline in Medicaid enrollment in nearly a decade.
