Our Programs

With the ongoing changes in the news media and the launch of the Foundation's new non-profit news service, Kaiser Health News, the Foundation is redesigning its journalism training and education programs. An announcement with details of our continuing programs will be made in January 2010. Any questions about the programs should be addressed to Penny Duckham, the Executive Director of the Fellowships Program.

The Kaiser Media Fellowships in Health—for mid-career journalists in the U.S.
The 2009 Media Fellows and their work.
The Kaiser Media Internships in Health Reporting—for young journalists in the U.S. interested in specializing in Health reporting. Deadlines for applications for the 2010 Internship: Print/Online applications are due by Thursday, December 3, 2009. Broadcast applications are due by Thursday, January 7, 2010.

Kaiser Mini-Fellowships for Global Health Reporting—for journalists working in English-language news organizations with target audiences in North America and/or Europe.
The 2009 Minifellows have been selected. No new applications are being accepted at this time.

CNN MultiChoice Award Announced
"Pain in my Heart", a documentary by Hopewell Rugoho-Chin’ono, freelance reporter from Zimbabwe, won the Kaiser Family Foundation Award for Excellence in HIV Reporting in Africa. Mr. Rugoho-Chin’ono was also named CNN African Journalist of the Year. You can learn more about the award and watch the award-winning documentary on the program’s website or on the press release .

New Orleans/Gulf Coast Site Visit
In March 2007, the Kaiser Media Fellows and invited journalists met in New Orleans, LA and travelled to Gulfport, MS and Baton Rouge, LA for a weeklong series of briefings with health experts, policymakers and health care providers on the changing health challenges in the Gulf Coast Region.

2007 Internship Orientation – Washington, D.C.
From June 3-8, 2007, the 2007 Media Interns met for a weeklong orientation to health reporting.

Workshop on Issues Covering AIDS
From October 9-10, 2006, HT Media, Ltd. and the Kaiser Family Foundation co-sponsored a two day workshop for about 60 journalists in Patna, Bihar. The participants learned about the opportunities and challenges in reporting on HIV/AIDS and people living with the disease. Click here to see the program agenda.
