Kaiser Public Opinion Spotlights summarize the state of public opinion on key health care topics. Each uses data from Kaiser surveys as well as other sources to identify important themes, examine current views and note relevant trends over time.




A fully searchable archive of more than 65 years worth of survey questions on health issues. The database includes more than 60,000 questions drawn from all public polls conducted on these topics, including but not limited to Kaiser health surveys.

Views on the U.S. Role in Global Health Update -- November 2009
This is an updated survey on the U.S. role in global health, which probes American public opinion about efforts by the U.S. to improve the health of people in developing nations. According to the poll findings, most Americans support current U.S. spending to improve health conditions in poorer nations despite the economic recession and more of them prefer an emphasis on health infrastructure rather than fighting specific diseases.
Kaiser Health Tracking Poll—October 2009 -- October 2009
The October Kaiser Health Tracking Poll finds public support for health reform unchanged since last month, with more in favor than opposed.
Survey also shows about half of the public believes that if reform passes, help for the uninsured and changes in insurance market rules would arrive within the first year, years ahead of the timetables contemplated in the legislation.

New NPR/Kaiser/Harvard Poll Examines This survey conducted jointly by NPR, the Kaiser Family Foundation, and the Harvard School of Public Health examines the public’s views and opinions of the role of health care interest groups in the ongoing federal health care debate.  The survey examines whether people feel their views are represented in the ongoing legislative process and their level of trust in different groups.
Kaiser Health Tracking Poll - September 2009 -- September 2009
The September Kaiser Health Tracking Poll finds that public support for health reform ended its summer slide, reversed course and moved modestly upwards in September. The survey also finds initial majority support for taxing expensive health plans and imposing fees on insurers to pay for reform.
Data Note: Americans' Satisfaction with Insurance Coverage -- September 2009
This data note based on the Foundation's public opinion work finds that though most Americans say their insurance is "excellent" or "good," these positive ratings do not necessarily paint a complete picture. On closer examination, the data finds that younger Americans, those with lower incomes and those who report being in poor personal health are significantly less likely to say they are satisfied with their insurance than their counterparts.

This March 2009 survey to gauge the opinions and experiences of Healthy San Francisco's (HSF) first wave of participants reports high rates of satisfaction and signs that the program has improved access to care for those uninsured residents who have enrolled.

The August Kaiser Health Tracking Poll finds a slim majority of Americans continues to favor moving forward on health care reform now despite an intensifying ad war and a political climate of contentious town hall meetings that coincide with rising concerns about the reform effort.

The July Kaiser Health Tracking Poll finds a majority of the public remains supportive of taking action on health reform now, though there is some softening of support as criticisms and doubts seem to be registering.

The brief report compares and contrasts recent survey findings on Americans’ general inclinations on willingness to pay for health reform, and also revisits recent findings on specific revenue raising proposals.
