2000 Employer Health Benefits Survey

The Employer Health Benefits Survey is undertaken annually by the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Health Research and Educational Trust. In its fourteenth year, the survey was previously conducted by KPMG Peat Marwick from 1991-1998. The survey tracks trends in employer health insurance coverage, the rising cost of that coverage, and other topical health insurance issues. Findings are based on a survey of 3,402 randomly selected public and private employers, including 1,887 who responded to the full survey and 1,515 who indicated only whether or not they provide health coverage. Firms surveyed range in size from three to more than 300,000 employees.

The 2000 Employer Health Benefits Survey includes findings on employer health plan eligibility, coverage, enrollment patterns, health plan choice, premiums, employee cost sharing, and covered benefits. This year's survey also provides information on the rising cost of providing prescription drug coverage and employers' views on current issues such as proposals to use tax credits to subsidize employees to purchase private health insurance on their own. Findings from the survey appear in the September/October issue of Health Affairs.
