MTV NEWS & DOCS, IN A PARTNERSHIP WITH KAISER FAMILY FOUNDATION, SET TO AIR
“THINK HIV” ON AUGUST 18 AT 7PM (ET/PT) “THINK HIV” to Feature User Generated Content from Young Adults Affected by HIV and AIDS
NEW YORK, NY (August 14, 2006) - MTV News & Docs – in partnership with Kaiser Family Foundation – is set to present “THINK HIV,” the network’s first entirely user-generated show in which young people themselves tell the story of how their generation has been impacted by the virus. Part memorial, part testimony, these short vignettes filmed entirely by infected or affected young people will paint a raw, intimate, and informative portrait of the epidemic’s impact on their lives. It is presented as part of an ongoing public education partnership between MTV and Kaiser conducted under the “think” campaign, which includes original programming, targeted public service ads, and free print and web informational resources on HIV/AIDS and related issues. The half hour show will premiere on MTV on Friday, August 18th at 7PM (ET/PT).
The documentary will feature compelling first-person accounts of young adults dealing with HIV/AIDS, often in real time, including coming out to family and the community as HIV positive; HIV positives in relationships with HIV negatives and difficulties with medications and treatments.
“THINK HIV” will have an online counterpart (www.think.mtv.com), making it the first-ever multi-media community to give the American youth a voice on HIV/AIDS. MTV and Kaiser, in partnership with the National Alliance of State and Territorial AIDS Directors (NASTAD), also hosted the first nation-wide video blogging contest in which young adults from nearly every state were selected and given video cameras to vlog about what HIV/AIDS means from their unique perspective. A national winner will be announced from the state finalists on August 18 to coincide with the XVI International AIDS Conference in Toronto, Canada. All the vlogs will be posted to both the think website and iFilms.
Dave Sirulnick and Marshall Eisen are Executive Producers of “THINK HIV.” Betsy Forhan is Supervising Producer.
