Nearly one-quarter (23%) of adults say they have seen drug ads and talked to a doctor about a specific prescription medication as a result of an advertisement.
The most common outcomes of talking to a doctor about a specific drug are a recommendation for lifestyle change (57% of those who talked to a doctor as a result of a drug ad or 13% of the total population) and getting a prescription for the medication (52%, or 12% of total). Somewhat smaller shares say the doctor recommended a different prescription (44%, 10% of total) or an over-the-counter medicine (34%, 8% of total) and about a quarter (26%, 6% of total) say the doctor recommended no medication.
