The U.S. Government and Global Maternal, Newborn & Child Health
Worldwide, about 9 million children under age five die each year from largely preventable and treatable causes. In addition, approximately 342,000 to half a million women die during pregnancy and childbirth, and millions more experience severe adverse consequences. Almost all live in the developing world.
This fact sheet examines the U.S. role in addressing maternal and child health issues globally, including a look at U.S. support for maternal and child health programs across the developing world.
