Since 1998, the Foundation has conducted an ongoing series of studies about the V-Chip and the TV ratings system. The studies have examined the accuracy of the ratings, parental opinions about TV content, children's opinions on and use of the TV ratings, and parental understanding of, use of, and opinions about the TV ratings and the V-Chip. The most recent study, released in July 2001, found that just 7% of all parents are currently using a V-Chip to block programs with violent or sexual content. The Foundation's studies in this area include:
Parents and the V-Chip 2001 (July 2001)
Survey of Parents Regarding the V-Chip and TV Ratings (April 2000)
Parents and the V-Chip: A Kaiser Family Foundation Survey (May 1999)
Rating the TV Ratings: One Year Out: An Assessment of the Television Industry's Use of V-Chip Ratings (September 1998)
Parents, Children and the Television Ratings System: Two Kaiser Family Foundation Surveys (May 1998)
The Foundation also created a free booklet, A Parent's Guide to the TV Ratings and V-Chip, which has been made available to parents across the country.
