Health Coverage and Access to Care Among Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders -- April 2008
A new analysis by the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Asian & Pacific Islander American Health Forum examines the health coverage, access to health care and health status of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander ethnic groups in the United States, and finds that certain subgroups are doing much worse than others in terms of health insurance coverage and access to health care. For example, Korean Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders are about twice as likely to be uninsured as whites.

The President released his Fiscal Year 2009 budget proposal in January 2008. The President’s plan would increase SCHIP funding by $19.7 billion over the next five years, more than the $5 billion included in his FY 2008 budget proposal, but less than the $35 billion included in the SCHIP reauthorization bills that were vetoed last year. The Foundation's KCMU has prepared a fact sheet summarizing the proposal and places it in the context of last year's SCHIP reauthorization debate.
