The Foundation's activities in race/ethnicity and health care are focused on efforts to reduce disparities in health care access and quality. Through policy research and analysis, and media and public education activities, the Foundation seeks to improve knowledge and understanding of the problems contributing to the poorer health care outcomes of people of color. A major part of the Foundation's portfolio of work on race/ethnicity and health care has been a focus on the particular health challenges facing American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/ANs). These projects have included analytic efforts and a fellowship program for mid-career AI/AN health professionals. The Foundation also supports the development of new leadership in health policy through the Barbara Jordan Health Policy Scholars Program, which annually provides college students of color the opportunity to work in a congressional office with major health policy responsibilities.
