| Henry Kaiser in Antarctica: Journal Twelve
December 24, 2001 |
The Dive pictures that I promised last time will have to wait until Journal Thirteen. My dive buddy Kevin had a hole in his dry suit. That hole is patched now and drying over our two day, Xmas holiday here at McMurdo Station. Things are quiet. I have been working peacefully in the office that I share with four Exploratorium grantees. Space is cramped, but I have 6 guitars here and a full recording studio. Check out the cool poster on my iBook screen that my pal Matt made for Pole's New Year's Party. I have a great view of the sea ice and the dive locker out my office window.

Folks seem to have a pretty decent holiday and Xmas celebration here. Perhaps in the old days, when the Navy ran the show as Operation Deep Freeze, things were different? As this patch attests: Interesting Patch

A couple of days ago there was a successful effort to express a peaceful sentiment with an arrangement of human bodies up on Observation Hill over the town. There are many great views from up there. Red Parka Peace Sign

We cruised out past some Weddell Seals to Dive Hut 14 at Cape Armitage, where we plan to dive tomorrow. I shoveled some snow around and about the hut as Kevin filled the the fuel tanks for the heating stove at the hut. And Icestock is coming up next weekend; that will be the first performance of our band. We did come up with an appropriate band name: COLDFINGER.
