Henry Kaiser in Antarctica: Journal Thirteen

January 1, 2002

Lately we have been diving at Hut 14, just off Cape Armitage, a few minutes sprite ride from town.

Outside Hut 14

Many of our excellent dive tenders come out with us as volunteers from the fire department.

Now that Ben Hunt has returned to the States, that leaves me as the second of two divers in Art DeVries group. Kevin Hoefling is my dive boss and dive buddy.

Entering the hut, we prepare to go below ice.

Ready Again

Going down into the dive hole and through eight feet of ice is a magical experience.

*Note: You will need a media player (e.g. RealPlayer, Windows Media Player, etc.) installed on your computer in order to listen/see these clips. There are more seals around Hut 14. Sometimes we see them stopping to breathe in the dive hole.

After forty or fifty minutes it's time for us to return to the world above the sea ice.

ZZZZZZZZZZZ

See more new underwater mpeg views from the Antarctic.

Next week the dive huts will be removed and we will only be jumping into holes in the ice. No more nice warm dive huts.....

Wish You Were Here!
