The Honorable Henry Bellmon


The Honorable Henry Bellmon is Statesman in Residence at Oklahoma State University. He became Oklahoma's first Republican governor in 1963. After his term expired, he was twice elected U.S. Senator from Oklahoma, serving from 1968 to 1980. In 1986 he was reelected as Governor, a position he held until 1991. Governor Bellmon is a co-founder and former co-chairman of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget and continues to serve as a member. He also served as Director of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services in 1983. Since stepping down from public office, Governor Bellmon has been actively involved with the board of directors of United Funds.

In recent years, he has been a professor and lecturer at Oklahoma City University, Central State University, the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University. Governor Bellmon was a member of the Kaiser Commission on the Future of Medicaid.
